Previously I looked at an Umbraco group in Cardiff and now jump across the Bristol Channel to umBristol.
Um(braco) + Bristol = umBristol
Combining the friendly CMS from Denmark (Umbraco) and the largest tech-hub in the southwest (there isn't much competition) you will find a group that has been meeting up since Jan 2010, according to their own website.
They also have a meetup page, a twitter handle of @umBristol and a slack channel. They also recently had a winetasting which shows they are sophisticated too!
They started as a monthly social in the pub before progressing after a year or so to an alternating format which generally goes Talks - Social - Talks - Social....
The April 2017 umBristol Meetup was held at EMO Unlimited with...
- A round up of news in the Umbraco world
- An overview from Jonathan Richards about his mapping tool TerraType for Umbraco
- A look at the challenges of Remote Working (from me)
- A third talk that had to be cancelled
- Free Pizza
- Socialising at a nearby pub beforehand and afterwards.
umBristol are welcoming, including the first time I was there for a social where I knew no one. A couple of Italians gatecrashed on a tour of different Meetups, and they were welcomed despite knowing nothing of Umbraco.
Amongst their members are several Umbraco veterans who have been working with it for 10+ years and many who work with it it full time. If you have questions about Umbraco then these people are likely to know the answer.
Some of the guys of umBristol are among the organisers of Code Cabin, a very small gathering of Umbraco people for a weekend in the Peak District. Take a look!
UmBristol will be continuing their monthly talks, looking for new members and speakers and being prominent at Umbraco Events such as CodeGarden 2017 .
Come along if you're within an hour or so of Bristol!
Let me know in Comments or @DuncanThom if there are any other Umbraco Meetups in the South West I can take a look at or anyone Umbraco based around Exeter!
